Dear guests, dear friends of the guest house, The Stiftung Weltweite Wissenschaft deeply regrets having to inform you that, after more than 60 years, it has had to cease operations at the guest house at Rothenbaumchaussee 34 as of 31 December 2025. The University of Hamburg, as the owner, has decided to carry out a fundamental and comprehensive renovation of the building, which was constructed in 1889. From January 2026, we will therefore no longer be able to accommodate visiting scholars. Nor will we be able to use the International Meeting Centre on the ground floor of the guest house for academic and cultural events. Furthermore, we are unable to tell you whether, and if so when, the building will once again be available to guests. If you have any questions regarding a visit to the University of Hamburg lasting one month or longer, please contact the University’s Welcome Centre: . Kind regards, Stiftung Weltweite Wissenschaft – University of Hamburg Guest House: Prof. Dr Rolf von Lüde, Prof. Dr José Alfons Broekaert, Frank Laubert – Execu4ve Board

Welcome to the guest house of the University of Hamburg

Welcome to Rothenbaumchaussee 34!
In the immediate vicinity of the university campus and the Hamburg Dammtor ICE train station, the guest house team welcomes you to a beautifully renovated neoclassical building dating back to 1889.
In 41 apartments, 4 studios and 5 family apartments of various sizes many visiting scholars from numerous countries have found a pleasant and comfortable home for their stay in Hamburg since the foundation of the Stiftung Weltweite Wissenschaft in 1963. On the first floor of the building is the International Meeting Center (IBZ), a meeting place for scientific and cultural events and the exchange of guests in the guest house. The guest house is run by the non-profit “Stiftung Weltweite Wissenschaft” (Global Science Foundation), which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2023.
Its mission is to promote the international exchange of academics on behalf of Universität Hamburg by offering guest apartments and conference rooms.
