Dear guests, dear organisers,
In 1890, a "tenement house for high living standards" was built at Rothenbaumchaussee 34 in Hamburg, whose neoclassical façade has survived the passage of time almost unchanged to this day. In 1963, the building was rededicated as a guest house of the University of Hamburg. The non-profit "Stiftung Weltweite Wissenschaft" (World Science Foundation) took over responsibility for the ongoing operation and maintenance of the house on behalf of the university.
After 130 years, despite constant and costly maintenance, breaks in the old clay sewage pipes and considerable moisture penetration damage to the foundation walls became apparent. The presentation, which was made for the Foundation's Advisory Board, shows a collage of images of the main damage findings and the work that was required to restore the building.
